Desiree Devonne Smith aka Des Divine is not only a rapper/ singer-songwriter but, daylights as a psychotherapist specializing in childhood trauma and post traumatic stress disorder. She also penned a fully illustrated adult children’s book series geared toward utilizing the art of storytelling to heal core wounds; the first of its kind that takes modern twists on parables, fairy tales and folklore.
Perhaps this is why her music is rich with raw and transformative elements that intersect genres, moments, universal life experiences, pain and joy.
Desiree has the unique ability to captivate her audience with unique melody, hypnotic hooks, and her ability to use her voice as an instrument.
She was raised a military brat in Europe, her Father originated from the outskirts of Philadelphia and her mother a small river city called Mainz in Germany. The youngest of four daughters and with a significant difference in age, her formative memories were encapsulated by her older teenage sisters blasting music from the 70s and 80s.
Elements old school hip hop, Motown and artists such as Prince, Chaka Kahn, Madonna, Bowie and Michael Jackson are hidden influences found like treasure in many of her compositions.
She completed her first album, ‘Portals,’ in 2023 that features 11 original songs. Her sophomore album, ‘River City Revival,’ is set to be released Spring/Summer 2024.
