Born out of a love for music and all things rock and roll, the band began during the Covid-19 pandemic. Our lead singer, songwriter, and guitar player, Fritz Fayman, was looking to write his first album, originally just as a pet project, but as he started to write more, he felt that he had something that could be real. He got together a drummer friend of his, Jesse Noriega, and a co-worker friend who played bass, Frank Rodriguez. Fritz then booked a session at Signature Sound Studio in San Diego. After all the mixing was done they released their first, self-titled, album on most streaming platforms. Due to the restrictions of the pandemic and members leaving due to moving, new jobs, school, etc., it took a long time for the band to get going.
It was about a year later before The Reckless could release any new music. At this point the band started to gain its core members. The first was our bassist, Michael Kennedy. He had been in previous bands before and was a fan of the band's sound and goals. The next core member who joined was Riku Myllykoski, the drummer. He joined after a stint as a fill in drummer when the reckless was playing shows and was going through a rotation of fill in drummers. He decided he wanted to join after he saw that his input and skill would be valued and added to the band's overall sound instead of just being told what to play. After the departure of their previous rhythm guitar player, Daniel Espinoza, the band played as a trio and really started to hone their sound. Practicing constantly in order to play all types of venues. They began releasing more music and with each new song, the quality of the recordings and the songs themselves improved. As time progressed it was decided that another guitar player would help with more difficult and complex melodies. After a couple of interviews and jam sessions, John Kelly was added to the band. He first found The Reckless as a fan who came to one of our shows and really liked the energy and sound the band exhumed. He became a perfect fit.
In all this time The Reckless grew into a fun, rocking, known name in the San Diego music scene. Shows have continued to draw in larger and larger crowds, including being apart of some sell out shows at the SOMA side. Our song Away is now nominated for a San Diego Music award as the best rock/alternative song and new music is always in the works. We are also planning a small So-Cal Tour for May and some Bay Area shows in the Summer. Their sound is continuously being built on and perfected. The Reckless is currently made up of rhythm guitar player - John Kelly, drummer - Riku Myllykoski, and Bassist - Michael Kennedy, with Fritz Fayman as lead guitar and vocals, is always ready to throw some of the most amazing shows around. The Reckless will continue to build on what they have and continue making rock music that will last through the ages!
