Jack O'Neill
Westfield, NJ
Known as the founder of Florida's seminal garage/psych band the Painted Faces and co-writer of "Anxious Color" which was chosen by Mojo Magazine as one of the 100 top psychedelic era songs worldwide, Jack had the good fortune to begin his recording career with the likes of Scotty Moore and D.J. Fontana in Nashville prior to his time with the Painted Faces with whom he toured extensively. Jack moved on to form the band Beaujack with guitarist Earl Slick and drummer Jack Mack in New York City. The band signed a publishing deal with Peer-Southern Music and recorded extensively at Peer-Southern's studio in the Brill Building in New York in addition to sides cut for Decca Records and at O.D.O. studios with Richie Cordell and Bo Gentry producing. After several years together, Jack signed a deal with CBS Records/April Blackwood Music and moved to London and Earl replaced Mick Ronson in David Bowie's band. The two were reunited for the original Earl Slick Band album which featured Luther Vandross and David Sanborn among other Bowie alums but never saw the light of day until many years later when it was released as "Lost and Found". In addition to fronting Beaujack with a rotating cast of top flight players and opening tour dates for artists such as Paul Butterfield, Dicky Betts, Buddy Miles and countless others, Jack provided lead vocals for several other New York City recording bands including the Rough Cuts, Bad Luck & Trouble and Hot Monkey Love with the late Frankie LaRocka. Jack was inducted into the New York Blues Hall of Fame in 2013.
