Matt Curlee

MATT CURLEE is a Rochester, NY based composer and performer, focused on collaborative projects across a wide variety of styles and media, from non-traditional ensembles and improvisational music, to film, to theatrical works, to dance, and beyond. Recent commissions have included works for the U.S. Air Force Band, the Eastman Percussion Ensemble, RPS Collective, and many other solo performers, ensembles, and collaborators of all kinds, including visual artists, dancers, animators, scientists, and filmmakers, with performances spanning three continents.

A 2019 collaboration with National Geographic photographer Flip Nicklin underscored three decades of Mr. Nicklin's groundbreaking whale photography in a multimedia event called "Unsoftly, to the Night," and the same year his setting of Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s seminal short story “The Yellow Wallpaper,” created in collaboration with theatrical percussionist Nikki Joshi, was produced as a short film in association with the Rebanks Family Foundation.

Matt is also an assistant professor at the Eastman School of Music, where he has served since 2008.
