Phil Lopez

Phil Lopez- Composer, Singer/Songwriter
Phil was born in the coal mining town of Welch, West Virginia. When he was seven, he and his family moved to Newark, New Jersey. He became involved in music and sang with the New Jersey Symphony Boys’ Choir and the Madrigals. His interest in music led to his desire to play a musical instrument, and he began to play the trumpet. His interest in trumpet continued to develop throughout high school. Upon graduation from East Side High School in Newark, Phil chose to attend the University of Tampa in Tampa, Florida which held accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Music. While attending the University of Tampa, he began to compose his own music. As a sophomore, Phil was awarded a music scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree. Upon graduation, he traveled around the country with three different bands as a singer and member of the brass section.

When he returned to Tampa, he started his own band, Tampa Bay Brass, and began a career in music education. While earning his Master of Education degree from National Louis University, he continued to write and perform his original music. He entered the Florida Songwriters’ Festival and was the only contestant to win in two categories. His song, Crystal Ball won second place in Pop and Chase the Tears Away took third place in Rock. He then made the decision to record his original music. Cygnet Records and Elf Salad Music, BMI were formed.
