Simon has always had a passion for pop music and has been writing songs for over 40 years, since he first learned to play piano. However, it is only in the last six years that he has embarked on what he describes as a musical adventure (destination unknown).
In this time, he has thrown himself into learning how to record and produce, he has built himself a small studio at home, learned the basics of guitar playing to add more colour to his sound and performing range, developed an understanding of marketing in the music industry and - most significantly - has written over 150 new songs.
Simon has now released 6 albums, 'Circle Line' in 2017, 'Baby Boomer' (2019), '12 Colours' (2020), 'Me And My Big Mouth' (2022), '5' (2023) and 'Strange Alien' (2024) (all available on Spotify, Apple Music and all streaming platforms) and has adopted a release strategy that focuses on releasing a single every 4 to 6 weeks, rather than releasing albums full of music that no-one has heard!.
Promoting individual songs has made a huge difference in developing an audience, with Spotify streams now totalling around 2.5 million since he released his first track to an unsuspecting public. In addition, he now has around 8,000 Spotify followers to add to the 500 followers on Facebook and the 250 fans he has found from having his songs played on Internet radio around the world.
Over the last 3 years, Simon has also developed a YouTube channel with over 60,000 subscribers. Here, he presents a regular video-cast called 'Adventures in Pop', where he mixes talking about his own music and the art of songwriting with talking about pop music that's in the news... all of which enables him to widen his promotional reach.
Simon has played a couple of launch gigs to showcase his music but hopes to be able to perform to a much greater extent in the future.
Simon believes pop music can say something meaningful. The songs he is most proud of have lyrics that are as strong as the melodies or the rhythm. It's therefore no surprise that his influences include Paul Simon, Frank Ocean, Elvis Costello, Kate Bush, Rufus Wainwright, Leonard Cohen and Randy Newman.
