Effeson Hailemichael (AKA Prodygal Son) is not your typical songwriter/artist. After a successful career in investing and entrepreneurship, he decided to pursue his passion for music as a songwriter while looking for his next business to build within the music industry and an eye looking towards his first artist project. What sets Effeson apart as a songwriter/artist are the same attributes that set him apart as an investor/C.E.O.: a consistently great work ethic (he still puts in investment banking hours, except now in the studio), very strong attention to detail, an eye, ear and good instincts for finding and developing talent, the ability to lead with empathy and humility, the ability to connect and relate to almost anyone, and a perpetual desire to learn. As a songwriter, Effeson is able to craft unique, nuanced and complex yet very relatable stories with his lyricism being his biggest strength. While he is able to approach any concept given his varied, exciting and traumatic life experiences, a lot of his songs include themes of consciousness and spirituality, trauma/mental health and abuse, an aspirational lifestyle of lavish experiences, and his world travels. Since his earliest and biggest musical influence is hip hop, when he raps, he also addresses the subjects of money, women, bravado, etc….but in combination with other deeper subject matter so that the story and the purpose of each track is to make listeners aware of new ways of thinking or question their own beliefs. But Effeson isn’t just a rapper. His music typically fuses hip hip with afro, pop or even rock and he’s able to compose catchy melodies in pop structures as comfortably as he is able to spit a hot 16.
