I started my musical "career", all 3 years of it, in 1977 while stationed as an airman at Robins AFB near Macon Georgia. Huge country music scene back then. Bought a guitar, learned enough to let me start writing songs and entering contests at local night clubs, including Nashville South, headlined by the as yet discovered Razzy Bailey and his band The Aquarians. Won a few contests, but not many as I never really sang great, and most of the contests were decided by applause by whoever brought the most family and friends and all I could bring with me was a few Security Police buddies I roomed with ar the base. I enjoyed performing my own songs and Razzy Bailey came over after one appearance and asked if I had really written what I had performed ,and said "son keep up the songwriting." (Save you looking it up, Razzy passed during COVID and I never got to meet up again. He was signed by RCA right when I was about to leave in '80 and had 6 # 1 hits. But, RCA also had just signed a littler band called "Alabama," my favorite.
Met the love of my life at the end of 1979 and after being assigned to Keesler AFB in 1980 decided on setting the music down , other than a few base level contests, for the next 44 years creating a stable career, but now really hoping that some of my better songs can still make it out there in the world, mostly so others can enjoy them.
If a few (or even one) gets picked up, I wouldn't mind showing up at "writers nights" once in a while.
