Emma Johnson

Award winning saxophonist and composer Emma Johnson is a Leeds based musician and the bandleader of Emma Johnson’s Gravy Boat.
Emma’s music has been played on BBC Radio 3, Jazz FM and BBC Radio 6 Music. Currently developing her composition portfolio outside of contemporary jazz, Johnson is exploring sound worlds inspired by her love of cinematic scores, folk and singer songwriters and the piano.

Her debut album Worry Not was released in 2021 to great acclaim, and is available to listen here as well as on streaming platforms and Bandcamp.

As a composer, Emma moves between cinematic, melodic jazz and more traditional cinematic music with ease, and has most recently written a score for an art gallery walkthrough, been featured on the Spitfire Audio Labs pages and is working on a new piano music library. She releases music with collaborator Nishla Smith under the name Night Porter which leans more into folk and dark pop influences.

A versatile musician, Emma has recorded and performed with musicians such as Easy Life, Gregory Porter, Olly Murs, Clare Teal, Los Campesinos! and Reverend and The Makers and performs across the UK and internationally with a number of bands.
