Helen Slator Young is a songwriter and composer with more than 30 years of experience writing music. Her styles vary from solo piano, instrumentals, and orchestral pieces to adult contemporary, jazz, rock, and pop songs. She has many pieces under contract and is available to compose and write songs upon request.
Helen is a classically trained pianist and singer. She graduated cum laude from the University of North Texas (UNT) with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies piano and voice performance and received the first arranging emphasis from the University. While at UNT, Helen wrote for and played in jazz big bands and sang in a 20-voice 8-part jazz vocal ensemble with a rhythm section.
She played with bands and performed solo piano gigs for many years in Dallas and Houston, Texas. She also has studied orchestration and film scoring.
