Ruth Weber (AKA Ruth Hertz, and Ruth Lopez-Yañez)
received her Bachelor of Music degree from San Diego State University and MA degree in music from Cal. State Univ.at Northridge.(CSUN)
As a performer Ruth has worked as a pianist for such prestigious groups as the Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute, CSUN, Marantz Music-Minus-One (recording artist), and has accompanied various opera singers internationally. She is currently the Artistic Director/ Conductor of the multi-award winning, Billboard Charting group, the San Diego Jewish Men's Choir. The group has won numerous awards and made several US tours . They have appeared as guest artists with the Omaha Symphony, on JTV, on KPBS and as a backup choir with 3XGrammy® winner Ricky Kej and Latin Grammy® winner Mister G. The group recently released their third album, "Legacy," which features historically relevant Jewish music in the Hebrew, Ladino, and Yiddish languages and was produced and arranged by Ruth Weber. The album won a Global Music Award. The group will make their Carnegie Hall debut in 2026. Ruth Weber is currently on the music faculty at Palomar College and San Diego Miramar College in the San Diego area.
As a singer/songwriter Ruth's children's songs were first released on Spin Records. She was a first place winner in the New York Pro/Am songwriting competition, The Shalshelet Music Festival, The Akademia Music Awards,a winner in the Global Music Awards and the Global Peace Song Awards 2017, and the U.S.A. Jewish Songwriting Competition. Ruth was also a GRAND PRIZE winner in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition and a GRAND PRIZE WINNER in the Hollywood Music in Media Awards, and Clouzine International Music Awards (children's music). Her writing credits include music for the Emmy Award winning independent film, "Walking on Water," which was televised on Cox cable, and the song, "The Dreidel Sing Along," which was recorded by The Moody Jews and a winner in the Shalshalet Jewish music festival. This song has been orchestrated and performed by several major orchestras and was released in choral sheet music by Hal Leonard/Transcontinental Music in 2019. Ruth Weber was the choral arranger/conductor on the soundtrack of the multi-award-winning film 'One Little Finger," which featured narration by singer Julian Lennon, about ability in disability, and on the UNESCO world peace Billboard-charting album, "Action Moves People United," where her her arrangements featured narration by actor Dan Aykroyd and tracks with Allan White from YES. Ruth and her husband John Weber produced and directed a documentary short film, "Ale Brider (All My Brothers)," which has won numerous laurels in international film festivals. Ms. Weber composed many original instrumental pieces for this film which have also won honors. The film is set to be released in Dec. 2025.
Ruth is 1/2 of the multi-award winning mother/daughter music duo Ruth and Emilia. Their album, "Kokowanda Bay," garnered a Parent's Choice Award, a Mom's Choice Gold Award, and the Creative Child Song of the Year Award. The title song, "Kokowanda Bay," was performed with the Omaha Symphony, Nashville Symphony and Phoenix Symphony. Her songs have been published by many different companies including a print music contract for her song,"Looking for Ghosts," which appeared in Alfred publishing's new Halloween collection.
Ruth and Emilia released their newest adult album,"I Had a Dream:Songs of an Immigrant" based on poems of Ruth's late-grandmother Betty Karon Hertz, in December 2021 and it is receiving international airplay. The songs received an American Prize for chamber music, a Radio Music Award, and videos of 2 of the songs were winners in the Malabar Film Festival and the Accolade International Film Festival. The album will become part of an exhibit in the ANU Museum of the Jewish People in Tel Aviv, Israel. The duo toured with both albums in the summer of 2022.
Ruth was the choral arranger/conductor for the feature film "One Little Finger" which was released world-wide in 2019 and received over 11 laurels at international film festivals.
