Moxxy Jones is what happens when a familiar and seemingly conventional art form is elevated and re-energized by a pure, singular vision. Lifelong musicians, the duo known as Moxxy Jones (Frank and Milan) have honed their musical craft since their respective childhoods on opposite coasts: Frank in Brooklyn, New York and Milan in Portland, Oregon. One was trained in classical piano, the other in Jazz guitar. Both were influenced heavily by the popular music of their youth. But from an early age, they recognized and appreciated the raw beauty of a truly authentic sound.
After a chance meeting in San Francisco, they ended up as roommates while touring the U.S. with two successful pop/rock bands. Over time, the pair recognized in each other an uncommon devotion to music as an art form, and a distinctive, rare ability to prioritize art over ego. This shared sensibility and artistic energy ultimately became the driving force to create Moxxy Jones. It was also the catalyst for the development of a fearless creative process that pushes (and often ignores) the conventions and perceived boundaries of pop music and genres.
The duo’s creative impulses are a study in contrast. One tends to seek appealing harmonies, while the other is drawn to the hard edges of dissonance. They often pull in opposing directions, instilling a musical tension that is part of what creates their surprising and unforgettable signature sound. The outcome has been a body of work marked by a complexity and nuance you will rarely find in pop music. Beholden to no-one but each other at this stage, their current work – modern pop music blending unexpected elements of industrial, R&B, and alternative rock with an 80s and 90s flare – is an honest exploration of where their vision can take them. Ultimately, their sound is a celebration of the artistry that great pop music deserves (and more).
With the formation of Moxxy Jones, it seems the duo has arrived at a pivotal point in their musical journey. They have carved out a space where the art comes first, a place where the group-think of conventional music business punditry doesn’t get a seat at the table. It’s a space for them to speak with their authentic voices as artists. With the weight of expectations absent, and the guardrails removed, what remains is pure music.
