Composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Jim Keyes has maintained a steady flow of new music that has found its way into television, video productions, and fan playlists for over 30 years. With influences ranging from Tom Petty to Philip Glass to Michael McDonald, Keyes has created a versatile body of work, including five full-length independent CDs.
As a kid, Jim learned piano by listening in on his sisters’ music lessons. He later cut his teeth writing acoustic Americana music on a beat-up second hand guitar. After graduating from the New Country genre on electric guitar, he expanded his songwriting talents to rock and pop.
Inspired by film scores, Jim evolved into composing cinematic music and soundscapes on synthesizers. Jim was later commissioned to compose cinescapes for events and films. His first film score was for the cult classic short film, “The Catskill Chainsaw Redemption”. More recently, Jim wrote and produced the score for “The Misadventures Of Ichabod Crane”. He also created the sound effects for the film, garnering him the Best Sound Effects (SFX) award at the Imaginarium Film Festival in 2021.
In addition to scoring films, digital media, and installations, he regularly plays music from different time periods at historic sites on reproduction instruments.
As part of the spiritual duo Carla & Keyes, Jim adds soul, funk, and R&B to round out his musical background.
