Bel Despair

Bel Despair is Haley Di Giulio’s musical alter ego, who exposes all truths too dark and emotions too raw for polite conversation, using beautiful melodies and catchy lyrics to lure in the listener. Her debut EP, "Dying Trying", follows the emotional journey of an ambitious, perfectionistic girl in the aftermath of a life altering - read ruining - death. Imagine the music Rory Gilmore would write if Lorelai died. The only child of a single mother, Haley grew up in Pittsburgh, went to college in Boston to study Biology, and then moved to Los Angeles in hopes of becoming the next Greta Gerwigesque multi-hyphenate writer-performer. She lives nowhere near Bel Air (yet), but that’s how it goes in this city - you’re either wildly successful or the poor assistant to someone who is. Haley’s melodic self-therapizing through Bel Despair evokes the cinematic melancholy of early Lana Del Rey and the sharp wit and brutal honesty of 90s singer-songwriters like Liz Phair and Alanis Morisette.
